Best known for his championing of Northern Soul music at the Wigan Casino. On 23 September 1973, Winstanley had the idea for putting on and DJing at the Soul All-nighters at Wigan Casino. Over four million people passed through the venue, which ran four nights per week, until 6 December 1981.
Sunbird is delighted to bring you Russ Winstanley’s Wigan Casino Roadshow playing the very best of Northern Soul and Motown. Also on the night we have a special guest appearance from Paul Stuart Davies.
Russ Winstanley was the founder and original DJ at the world-famous Wigan Casino in the golden days of the Northern Soul movement. Responsible for breaking some of the biggest sounds on the scene, Russ has worked alongside a who’s-who of Soul music royalty. All music is from original vinyl and will keep you dancing all night long.
British vocalist Paul Stuart Davies is championed by many legends of American Soul music and works regularly alongside original Motown artists, both on stage and in the studio. He can boast the original Vandellas as his backing singers, has shared duet partners with Marvin Gaye (Kim Weston) and Stevie Wonder (Charlene), and was described by Marvin Gaye’s wife, Janis as “Just about as close as you can get”.
Doors open at 7pm and Russ Winstanley will be spinning records from 8pm, followed by a live performance from Paul Stuart Davies before Russ Winstanley takes to the decks again to take us to the end of the night.
