Sunbird Records presents two of the finest bands from the late 70’s/80’s Factory Records era who shared the stage with The Smiths, Joy Division, New Order and The Fall at their height. After a hiatus both bands return to the live fold several years ago and are now back on the live circuit with favourites from the back catalogue and new tracks to boot!!

Some Now Are

Some Now Are originally formed as a six-piece in Blackburn 1981, and went on to make their name in the northern post-punk and nascent synthwave/electro scenes. In 1983 they released the single Truth To Tell, produced by Peter Hook of New Order fame.

During the 1980s, the band supported the likes of New Order, The Smiths, Stockholm Monsters and The Chameleons, on the legendary Manchester live circuit.

After a hiatus, the band reformed in 2017 with original vocalist Andrew Fishwick-Mahon joined by Janet Fishwick-Mahon, Jackie Everett, Zander Sumner and Phil Llewellyn. Redefining their sound, Some Now Are resumed playing live and recorded new material with producer Paul Stewart Davies. Their 2020 release Facienda includes the track “Begging You (Original Mix)”, again produced by Peter Hook.

The Distractions

The Distractions make a welcome return the the ST. They recorded for the Factory, Island and Rough Trade labels and In the late 70s were regarded as one of the top Three bands in Manchester along with Joy Division and The Fall.

They reformed in 2017 with Alex and Mike from the original band and have been doing headlining gigs ever since, as well as supporting bands like The Flamin Groovies, Penetration and The Skids amongst others. Their new EP of all new material, ‘Time and Time Again’, was released through Bandcamp in July 2023 and has excellent reviews and airplay in the USA and Australia.

The night is followed by ‘Dare’ club night with DJ Steve Waring spinning all the best of the darker and edgier side of the 80’s.
